Resendez Advocacy offers a free 30 minute consultation to you to review your case and provide input on your options. An hourly rate is charged for consultation work after that point. Below are some examples of various consultation work that we do and the approximate time it typically takes for each. These times are meant to provide a guide in understanding costs associated with consultation services but time can vary depending on the complexity of the situation.
We review your child’s school records including IEP assessments, IEP paperwork, grades, report cards, and discipline reports and provide you written feedback on what your next options are in moving forward in working with the school district regarding your child’s success in school. Sometimes this is enough information and guidance for parents to move forward in working with the school district on their own.
Typically 1 hour
Sometimes you get information from your child’s teacher, or others who work at the school, regarding behavior that does not seem consistent with what you know of your child. We can observe your child at school and provide written input on supports you can ask to be put in place for your child. Typically 1 hour
We can help you plan for various school meetings so you attend them prepared with a written plan so you can better participate and have more meaningful meetings which result in the supports your child needs in school.
Typically 1-3 hours
It can be challenging communicating your concerns or requests to the school district since education terminology can be confusing. We can draft communication for you that will share your point of view in terminology so that the district will understand what is expected of them.
Typically 15 - 30 minutes
We can accompany you to meetings with school personnel. These can be SST, IEP, 504 Plan or any other meeting you feel it would be helpful to have someone there with you. This allows you to be the parent and not have to take in as much information and make decisions in isolation.
